Sharing our Knowledge in the Community

projectbluhands

sharing knowledge is sharing wealth

Sometimes in small business, we forget that we have a valuable wealth to share with others.  Whether it be introducing others to the benefits of our experience, ideas on creating employment or offering solutions to common problems, we all can do something for others.

Our team members at planetblu have amassed years of experience in various IT fields.  So, we've started projectblu.  The project is aimed at helping others in various parts of the world benefit from this experience.  It's our way of sharing knowledge and doing our bit for the community.

It's great when we see large corporations helping out when others need it most.  When disaster strikes, or in under-developed lands these corporate giants do their bit to render aid.  But even small businesses can help.  Read about our efforts to assist others and then think about how your business could possibly do something similar.

flood relief support

The year 2011 will be etched into the minds of Queenslanders for years to come.  With floods over 75% of the state, it was a disaster of a magnitude hard to imagine!

During this difficult time, projectblu was privileged to assist with an emergency email system for a non-profit that was in the thick of a disaster relief effort.  Our little team worked around the clock to get a new system up and running to handle the extra workload and electronic correspondence required and to make it available and capable.  We based the system offshore and well out of the reach of the Queensland disaster.

Many of our industry partners and personal friends are working hard to provide support to the many in need.  To you and to all the emergency workers we express a big thank you for your commitment to helping others.  Well done!

helping volunteers stay in touch

All over Latin America, there are many people involved in all types of volunteer work.  These people come from all aroung the world to give of their time and resources to assist others improve their life and learn new life skills.

Recently during 2010, projectblu had the opportunity to assist two such volunteers in South America.  Brittany and Megan are two dynamic young Canadian girls giving their time and energies to help others living high in the Andes Mountains.  Being in that part of the world has it's challenges!  One of the challenges is keeping up the communication, interest and support of others including their fellow Canadians.

Through projectblu we were able to provide the girls with hosting arrangements for their website, provide training in the use of Joomla as a Content Managment System and advice on the use of VoIP communications as well as ongoing access to our support staff.

promoting opensource ideas in ecuador

projectbluinlatinamerica

While helping with other volunteer efforts in Ecuador, projectblu has been promoting the adoption of OpenSource software solutions to increase opportunities for IT based work withing this rapidly developing country.  Ecuador has been quick to make advancements in IT.  Certain government sectors have adopted Linux as an alternative and preferred operating system.

Over a period of about six months in 2009, projectblu assisted with the promotion of Joomla, the OpenSource Content Management System, by providing free training for the installation and use of this exciting platform.  Joomla provides one methodology for rapidly deploying websites and thus translates into providing more employment opportunites.

Through our ongoing aid, those who use the Joomla platform are offered our assistance with their own projects.
